Fall Release Wildrose Vineyard Aidan Pinot Noir
2007

Winemaker’s Notes

In any given vintage we see a particular vineyard come to prominence and really establish itself as a forerunner for the harvest. We’ve worked with the Wildrose Vineyard since 2002 and have always regarded it as one of our key partners. In 2007 its beautiful fruit and the resulting wine deserves special accolades and for me really exemplifies this ground-breaking vintage. Situated at the bottom of the Green Valley Road ridge, the soils are more clay based than the sandy ones typically found on the ridge tops. This lends an element of density and inherent structure to the fruit, yet its cool location also keeps the flavors bright and the acidity prominent. In this wine we see a perfect conflux of site, climate, farming expertise and winemaking influences that result in a wine that has the ability to age for an extended period. The level of youthful tannin and bright acidity are easily balanced by its fruit concentration. The combination is so intense that to drink this wine within the first two or three years following release would sacrifice its potential development down the track. Patience really is demanded here and the rewards will be substantial. Please decant for an hour if temptation gets the better of you within the first three years after release.

Bright ruby color. Fresh and elevated pure raspberry and alpine strawberry aromas with complex notes of pine needle and Asian spices. Vivid, juicy and lively entry of sweet raspberry that becomes rich and dense with aeration. Boldly structured and long on the back end with a wonderfully expressive crisp appley finish. Drink between 2012 and 2020.
