Fall Release Lorenzo Vineyard Chardonnay
2020

Winemaker’s Notes

In the finest vintages, the greatest vineyards rise to the top, and unsurprisingly, this is where we find the latest release of Lorenzo. These old vines produced a densely concentrated tiny crop in 2020, so the wine is wonderfully intense, oily, and broad with great steely acidity that gives the wine its dynamic piercing intensity. Most of the vineyard is planted on dense clay, but in a far corner, there’s a small section on lighter sandy-loam soils that provide the grapes for this unique, highly limited bottling—only six barrels each year. These are some of the most characterful grapes we work with, packed full of nuance, individuality, and outstanding pedigree.

Fresh green herbs, white flowers, and lime leaf notes drive the wine’s aromas—quite savory in style. The cascading flavors are pulsating, energetic, and mineral with ripe peach, lime, and lemon curd richness. A sense of crushed stone and mineral tension flows through the wine. Green olive and preserved lemon flavors echo long on the rising finish. This is a wonderfully noble wine that can age for up to a decade. Drink between 2022 and 2032 and serve at 58°F.
