Fall Release Finn Pinot Noir
2023
Winemaker’s Notes
Our twenty-fourth vintage of Finn Pinot Noir and one of the greatest in this long run. It’s a supremely complex and sophisticated wine that is supple and layered, showing great finesse. It reminds me of the classic 2015 vintage, which is maturing beautifully in bottle and still many years from its peak. The 2023 holds similar aging potential, and it’s clearly one of the top two or three wines in this magical vintage. The special way these two mature vine parcels combine to produce so much deliciousness is the building block to the wine’s success. The way they balance fruit richness with textural delicacy is the wine’s key. It’s very rare that wines can combine obvious concentration and weightlessness to this high degree—and given how supple the wine’s structure is, we can enjoy the wine soon after release.
Grand scale complexity, with aromas and flavors reminiscent of rose petals, cassis, intense raspberry, orange zest, and red apple skin. The wine has a shimmering, racy, energetic character that offers red, blue, and black fruit pastille notes. Layers of complexity unfold, and the wine is deep yet silky and sleek. It becomes precise and focused as it opens in the glass, finishing with lifted red fruits, cool herb tones, and sweet tobacco leaf. Drink between late-2025 and 2038. A gentle decant will hasten the wine’s evolution in the glass.
