Fall Release Wildrose Vineyard Aidan Pinot Noir
2013

Winemaker’s Notes

Our 2013 Aidan Pinot reminds me of the excellent 2011 bottling and is one of the wines of the vintage. Like all our 2013 efforts it takes some time to unfold in the glass so patience is required and decanting is highly recommended. The wine noticeably darkens with air, and as the fruit sweetness folds into the wine, all the vineyard complexity emerges and it becomes a more serious, structured Pinot. The wine’s high acidity really drives the wine giving focus and pinpoint purity to its obvious fruit richness. The long mineral-infused finish highlights its youthful dynamic nature – a brilliantly balanced wine of deep punchy fruit and vibrant, focused coastal structure. All the natural complexity of this wonderful mature vineyard is on offer here and it’s rightfully one of the stars of the vintage. This will sell out quickly.

Typically fragrant aromatic wine: red and black cherries, fresh raspberry, dried thyme and anise. A little woodsy and grassy with spearmint and orange peel. Bursting with juicy vibrant fruit on the palate – very ‘Pinot’. Deep core of fruit compote then expands with air to show vineyard complexity – fennel fronds, tarragon and savory complexity. Lush and mouth-filling but remains silky and fine. Beautiful acid/tannin balance on a dusty cocoa powder finish. Excellent aging potential of eight to ten years. Decant for an hour if possible and drink between 2016 and 2022.
