Spring Mountain DistrictBallard Vineyard

This rugged vineyard at the summit of Spring Mountain above the fog line features steep, rocky volcanic terrain surrounded by bear-laden redwood forest. Our parcel in the vineyard is planted in volcanic soils that are very dark red, loosely textured, and deep. With lots of organic material and high iron content, this site produces very soulful wines – very deep fruit with interesting, slightly herbal pine needle nuances. You get a strong sense of the high elevation forest setting in the wine with its prominent tannins and a dark fruit, roasted meat character.
