Winter Release Meteor Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon (Library Release)
2016

Winemaker’s Notes

Meteor Vineyard is, for me, the finest site in Coombsville, consistently producing incredibly succulent, intense wines with great purity of sleek dark fruit. We build this wine in the vineyard, pinpointing the leanest soils and highest elevation points in our two clonal parcels and harvesting them earlier than the lower lying, heavier soil areas. This precise, targeted farming and harvesting allows us to draw out all the special nuances of this magical site to maximise the elements that make this cool-climate Cabernet such an intriguing proposition, ultimately leading to a wine with so much deliciousness that it's hard to resist.

Deep garnet color, the wine resonates with deep, dark aromas of violets, cassis, freshly picked blackberry and fresh herbs with an earthy, mineral lift. The pure fruit entry evolves seamlessly to a focused, concentrated mid-palate, flickering and fading between richness and delicacy, power and vibrancy—the layers and flavors undulating and interweaving along a strong structural spine.  The finish is long with an echo of black cherry pit and bittersweet cocoa tannins. Dark, muscular and powerful, the wine has time on its side as it slowly uncoils. Look forward to 20+ years of evolution in the cellar. Drink from late-2019.
